In to the Crib

When we returned from our trip Rhonen was having some difficult nights to say the least. He would thrash around all night keeping both of us awake. I tried to feed him but he would eat two or three times. He just seemed uncomfortable. So we decided it might be time for the crib. He has been sleeping with us since he came home, it was just easy to feed him and feel reassured having him close by. But I suppose those days are over. The last couple of days we have been moving him to his crib after getting him to sleep (there is no way on this green earth he would ever fall asleep by himself!) and he is doing much better. I am adjusting to the monitor, it is much harder to wake up to that rather than having Rho stirring next me. I think he will learn to really like his crib and his room, so it is a good time to get him adjusted to being in there.

It makes me a little sad that he no longer sleeps with us, just another sign he is growing quickly and a reminder to appreciate each day I have at home with him.

Rhonen takes San Francisco

Dustin was finally able to get some time off of work so we took our first "mini" vacation as a family. We headed down to Santa Cruz on Saturday to visit Dustin's sister Shawna, along with her husband Chad and our beautiful niece Ekite. On the way down we had lunch with my Grandma and Grandpa in Elk Grove. It was great to see them again and it was a perfect pit stop for Rho. Thanks for the great lunch Gigi! Once we got to San Jose Dustin and Chad went to the 49er Practice. Apparently those football players are even bigger in person! Then on Sunday Dustin and I took Rhonen to his first baseball game. We all took to Caltrain up to San Francisco and watched the Giants pummel the Phillies! It was a great game and our baby did great. Even with roar of the stadium, he didn't cry (almost, but it stopped with the lower lip)! On Monday, Shawna and Ekite took us the boardwalk. I love that place! There is nothing better than riding the Giant Dipper along the beach. Dustin and I even got the front seat!

On Tuesday, we drove back up to San Francisco. On the way we stopped at Sam's Chowder House in Half Moon Bay and had an amazing lunch. Then we just walked around the city for the rest of the day. We love San Fran, it's just got an great feel and of course, great food. Wednesday we decided to go home, I think Rhonen had enough traveling because he was kind of grumpy. So we took him to the Wharf, had some more crab and headed home. We made one last stop at the Jelly Belly factory...we've always wanted to stop :) I couldn't believe how busy it was! Anyway, we stocked up on candies and finished our drive. Rhonen slept almost the entire way. And he proved to be quite the traveler! He was so interested in the new surroundings. I can see why he was grumpy that last day, it must be exhausting trying to process so many new things.

It was great to take a little trip, it reminds me of South America...only way more challenging. Have you ever tried to pack for a baby? It is incredible how much stuff you need, or think you need. Oh well, I guess it's all part of having this beautiful boy!

Roll Over

I have been working with Rhonen all week on rolling over and today...he did it! First he rolled from his tummy to his back all by himself. The second time he was in bed with Dustin so he had a slight advantage, but nonetheless he rolled from his back to his tummy. We are so proud of him! I told him if he was older and knew how to celebrate we would be getting cake or ice cream, but for now I just gave him a ton of kisses.

Fun New Toy

We got Rhonen a activity gym last week because he seemed to be ready for a new toy. When we first set it up and put him down on to the mat, he was a little overwhelmed. The whites of his eyes could be seen from across the room! So we took down most of the toys along the bars and now he is much happier. Some of the baby toys are designed to stimulate all of the senses at once, which seems like it would be sensory overload for a baby. So we are going to slowly add the toys back one at a time, so he can get used them. For now he is content with his musical sun! I think the little coughs are his attempt at laughter because he has been doing it a lot lately.

9 Weeks Old

Rhonen had his 2 month check up today. The doctor said he is doing really well. He is growing physically and developmentally right on schedule.

Weight: 12 pounds 15 ounces
Height: 23 inches
Head Circumference: 40 cm

Luckily for us, he doesn't have another visit for two more months. The doctor's office is not his favorite place!
