Lazy Summer Days

Last weekend I took Rhonen to my friend Amy's house to relax by her pool. It wasn't too hot and he really seemed to like being outside. There were so many new things for him to look at, including three cute dogs. I am getting more confident when I am taking him out. Mostly it is a formula of making sure he is full and dry before we go anywhere. Of course, that doesn't always work. He is still the dictator! But for the most part, he is happy to go along for the ride. We want him to be a good traveler so the more outings we can go on the better. I want to take him to Sacramento to see my family, but it might be another month before he is ready for that trip. Each day he is becoming more interactive, I love it!

Close Up

I took these pictures the other night before he went to sleep. He changes more and more every day. He looks so much like Dustin, especially that chin! I had to put a little mitten on his hand because of his nails... and I thought it would be a fitting tribute to Michael Jackson! Rhonen is a very physical baby. He loves to stand and does it very well. I only stabalize him, he bears almost all of his weight on his own! And he is starting to be more vocal which is a lot of fun. We've been talking to him a lot and now he is talking back. Sometimes my days feel like they are in slow motion and other times they feel like the blink of an eye. I am so thankful that I have this precious time to spend with him because I know it will go so fast!

Too Cool

Grandma bought him these for the summer...watch out girls!

Rhonen's first wedding...

Last weekend Rhonen and I went to his first wedding reception. Dustin had to work so it was just the two of us and Grandpa Steve. It was held at our friend Helen's house, the same place Dustin & I got married! Unfortunately it was incredibly hot and we had to stay inside for most of the party. Then Rhonen got some gas bubbles and it went downhill from there. He has never cried so hard in his short life. It was awful to watch! Luckily I had Grandpa there to help and there were several mom's and grandma's who offered their support. Looking back, he seemed little unsure from the beginning. But he sure looked cute in his little Hawaiian shirt!

First Father's Day

It was Dustin's first father's day! He played a little basketball in the morning then we all went to lunch at Ojiya. The sushi was great, I missed eating raw fish :~) To celebrate we had a little fried green tea ice cream and sake. It was a fun day and we look forward to the many more to come! Rhonen is growing each day. He is smiling all the time and likes to look at himself in the mirror. He will get to meet his cousin Ekite this weekend and I can't wait to see them together. I know they will be great friends.

Getting the hang of it...

Rhonen is now 5 weeks old and I feel like I am starting to get the hang of being a mom. The sleep deprivation doesn't feel as severe as it used to. We are starting to get a routine going and I have a few tricks up my sleeve to make him smile. We took our first trip this week to my father's house boat. Rhonen slept through the ferry ride and through most of the night. Although we did get some good camera time in. Dustin barbecued dinner and we sat on the patio and watched the sunset over a glass of wine. Later we watched a movie and went to bed. It was a good test trip for us. I think Rhonen liked the rocking of the boat. If only I could simulate that at home...

I can't believe how quickly time goes by. I swear he has doubled in size and does something new each day. Being his mom is by far the most rewarding thing I have ever been able to do!
